Graduation Requirements

  • A Total of 24 Carnegie Units of Credit are required for high school graduation.
  • One full Carnegie Unit of Credit is earned in each Emerson course during a single term.  
  • A total of eight Carnegie Units of Credit can be earned in a typical academic year (four courses per term).
  • Emerson also offers a six-week summer session so that students may earn additional Carnegie Units.
  • To be eligible for an Emerson diploma each student must complete at least five units of credit at Emerson.
  • 20 of the required 24 units must meet the following subject matter guidelines:
    • 5 units in Communications/English
    • 4 units of Science (2 laboratory courses are required)
    • 4 units of Social Sciences and Humanities (US History and American Government are required)
    • 4 units in Mathematics
    • 3 units of Foreign Language
